Who doesn’t like a character meal right? A chance to hang out with some of the stars, whether you have children with you or not is, I think, always a delight when eating on Disney Property, but there’s so much more to the Garden Grill. It’s really so worth the experience of going. The last time we went, we had our nine-month-old daughter Phoebe with us, and she loved the experience of meeting Farmer Mickey, Pluto, and Chip & Dale for this one. I had a blast with all of them, but she really had fun with the characters. Pluto has this wonderful thing when he licks you with his tongue. There’s a tiny speaker in there somewhere that does a great wet licking sound that really only you can hear.
We had a great time with the characters. Unless you have special dietary needs, then the menu is pretty well set. Some steak, veggies, wonderful bread, and they bring it to the table in an all-you-care-to-eat style. We never just stuff ourselves, but we always feel full when we leave, which is good when you’re about to start your hike deeper into the EPCOT park. Some of the food actually comes from the greenhouse attached to the Living with the Land ride below in the pavilion.
You’d think that’s enough. Good food, characters, the feeling of eating food grown at the park as part of the snazzy hydroponic garden, but there’s one more twist that makes me want to stay in this restaurant as long as possible before I feel like I’ve got to go.
The restaurant spins.
The kitchen’s stable in the middle, and the diners all ride on an incredibly slow moving disc that makes its way around in a circle. At one point you’ll be looking out at the pavilion, and later you’ll be watching riders go by on Living with the Land beneath you. It’s a slow calming ride around. Mostly a novelty, but it sets this restaurant apart for me. It’s the extra ten miles that make it a very incredible meal while you are at the park.
